BPSC TRE 4.0 Eligibility 2026: Age, TET, Degrees and Subject Groups
Start with the date that disqualifies people quietly. Every certificate you rely on, academic, training, experience and TET or competency, must be issued on or before 26 October 2026. If the Commission later extends the application window, this eligibility date still does not move.
The rest of the eligibility for Advt 15/2026 splits into three checks: your age on the cut-off date, the right TET or STET paper, and a degree plus training combination that matches the level and subject you want. Get any one wrong and the application is wasted along with the fee.
Age limit: two different base dates
This trips up even repeat candidates. Minimum age is counted from 01.08.2026. Maximum age is counted with 01.08.2024 as the base date, under Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department letter no. 212 dated 23.01.2006.
Relaxations on top of the table
- Teachers appointed and working under Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies get a relaxed upper age limit.
- Regular government servants of the Bihar government get 5 years, but only for a maximum of 5 attempts, counted from 12.12.2022 under resolution no. 22218. A certificate from the competent authority is compulsory.
- Persons with disability get 10 years under resolution no. 962 dated 22.01.2021.
- Ex-servicemen get 3 years plus the period served in defence, provided actual age on the application date does not exceed 57 years.
- Candidates covered by the Supreme Court order dated 01.08.2025 in SLP (Civil) Diary No. 28464/2025 get a one-time opportunity despite crossing the age limit. This is limited strictly to petitioners directly covered by that case.
- Candidates with an 18-month NIOS D.El.Ed who were denied a chance in Advt 22/2024 despite being eligible will have their maximum age computed against the Advt 22/2024 cut-off of 01.08.2023, following the Supreme Court order dated 05.05.2025 in Contempt Petition (c) Diary 8853/2025.
Retirement age for the post is 60 years.
TET and STET: which paper you need
Teachers appointed and working before the year 2012 who clear the competency examination do not need to have passed TET.
The STET 2026 concession
This is the most useful line in the whole advertisement for a lot of readers. Candidates who hold the academic qualification, have completed the training qualification, and are going to appear in STET 2026 may apply now.
The condition is firm. You must clear STET 2026 before the written (objective) examination. Fail that and no admit card will be issued. At the time of applying you have to submit a self-declaration in the format available on bpsc.bihar.gov.in, and produce the admit card, result and original certificates whenever the Commission asks.
Minimum marks in CTET
These follow Education Department memo no. 581 dated 17.06.2023, read with the BTET 2017 provision. For STET Paper-I and Paper-II, the pass marks fixed by the Bihar School Examination Board apply. Candidates from outside Bihar, men and women alike, are held to the General category figure of 60%.
Educational and training qualification by level
Class 1-5
Any one of these works: Senior Secondary with at least 50% plus a two-year D.El.Ed; Senior Secondary with at least 45% plus a two-year D.El.Ed obtained under NCTE Regulations 2002; Senior Secondary with at least 50% plus a four-year B.El.Ed; Senior Secondary with at least 50% plus a two-year diploma in special education; or graduation plus a two-year elementary education diploma.
For Urdu posts at this level, a Maulvi or Alim from the Bihar State Madarsa Education Board or Maulana Mazharul Haq Arabic and Persian University Patna counts, as does Intermediate with 50 marks in Urdu or a graduation in Urdu. For Bangla posts, 50 marks of Bangla at Intermediate or a Bangla graduation counts. A language degree awarded by a voluntary institution set up by a society or trust is not valid for appointment.
The 18-month NIOS D.El.Ed is valid, following the Supreme Court order. Teachers working before 10.08.2017 also have their 18-month D.El.Ed treated as valid.
Class 6-8
There are three post types here: Mathematics and Science teacher, Social Science teacher, and Language teacher. Qualification can be graduation plus a two-year elementary education diploma, or graduation or post-graduation with at least 50% plus B.Ed, or graduation with at least 45% plus a one-year B.Ed under NCTE regulations, or Senior Secondary with 50% plus a four-year B.El.Ed, B.A.Ed or B.Sc.Ed, or graduation with 50% plus a one-year B.Ed in special education, or post-graduation with 55% plus a three-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed.
B.C.A. with 50% plus a two-year elementary education diploma, B.Ed or B.Ed special education also works, as does M.C.A. with 55% plus the integrated B.Ed-M.Ed. Engineering graduates with a specialisation in Science and Mathematics plus B.Ed qualify under NCTE Regulations 2014, and so do B.Sc Biotechnology or B.Sc Electronics holders with B.Ed.
Subject conditions matter as much as the degree. For a language post you must have studied that language as Honours or Subsidiary at graduation. For Social Science you need any two of History, Geography, Political Science, Philosophy, Economics, Commerce, Psychology, Sociology or Home Science at graduation. For Mathematics and Science you need any two of Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology (Botany or Zoology).
Class 9-10
Graduation or post-graduation with at least 50% in the specified subject or subject group plus B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised institution; or graduation or post-graduation with at least 45% plus B.Ed under NCTE Regulations 2002 and 2007; or a four-year B.A.Ed or B.Sc.Ed in the specified subject group.
Subject groups at this level are strict. Mathematics needs Mathematics plus any two of Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Chemistry or Statistics at graduation, and B.C.A. counts for the Computer Science slot under notification no. 1010 dated 08.06.2023. Science needs Zoology, Botany and Chemistry, with Biotechnology and Microbiology added by notification no. 1154 dated 21.06.2023. Social Science needs any two of History, Geography and Political Science, of which one must be History or Geography, and Ancient History is treated as equivalent to History.
Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts and Dance have their own qualification routes, and Special School Teacher posts for Class 9-10 additionally need an RCI-recognised B.Ed in special education with a valid CRR number plus six months of cross-disability teaching training.
Class 11-12
Post-graduation with at least 50% in the specified subject plus B.Ed from an NCTE-recognised institution; or post-graduation with at least 45% plus B.Ed under NCTE Regulations 2002 and 2007; or post-graduation with 50% plus B.A.Ed or B.Sc.Ed; or post-graduation with 55% plus a three-year B.Ed-M.Ed.
Computer Science at this level has its own list, including DOEACC level A, B or C combinations, B.E. or B.Tech in Computer Science or IT, M.C.A., or a post-graduate diploma in computer with any post-graduation. For Computer Science candidates, B.Ed is not compulsory, which is worth knowing given the 407 posts on offer.
In the Commerce stream there are three subjects: EPS (Entrepreneurship), Accountancy and Business Study. A TET-qualified Commerce candidate may apply for any one of the three, but someone who cleared TET specifically in EPS, Accountancy or Business Study can apply only in that same subject.
Relaxation in qualifying marks of the degree
SC, ST, EBC, BC and persons with disability get a 5 percent relaxation in the prescribed minimum marks of the educational and training qualification, at every level. So a 50% requirement becomes 45% for these candidates.
Equivalences worth knowing
- Fazil from Maulana Mazharul Haq University or the Bihar State Madarsa Education Board equals post-graduation for Urdu, Persian and Arabic.
- Aacharya from Kameshwar Singh Sanskrit University Darbhanga equals post-graduation for Sanskrit.
- Alim equals graduation for Urdu, Persian and Arabic; Shastri equals graduation for Sanskrit.
Where these clash with NCTE or RCI provisions, the provisions stand modified automatically, and any dispute over recognition or equivalence is decided by the department in consultation with NCTE.
Two exam rules to know before you tick the eligibility boxes
Eligibility gets you into the hall, the marking rules decide what you walk out with. Two of them changed since TRE 3.0 and both matter while you choose a level.
First, every question carries five options and the correct answer sits among A, B, C and D. If you do not want to answer, darkening option E is compulsory. Leave all five blank and the question is treated as unattempted, which still costs 1/3 mark, the same as a wrong answer.
Second, the minimum qualifying marks are 40% for General, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC and 32% for SC, ST, women and persons with disability. A lot of pages still print 36.5% against EBC, which is the BC figure and wrong for this cycle.

What is the age limit for BPSC TRE 4.0?
Minimum 18 years for Class 1-5 and 6-8 and 21 years for Class 9-10 and 11-12, counted on 01.08.2026. Maximum age is 37 for unreserved men, 40 for BC, EBC and unreserved women, and 42 for SC, ST and transgender candidates, counted with 01.08.2024 as base date.
Can I apply if my STET 2026 result has not come?
Yes, if you hold the academic and training qualification and are going to appear in STET 2026. You must clear it before the written exam, and submit the self-declaration format from bpsc.bihar.gov.in. Without passing, no admit card will be issued.
Is B.Ed compulsory for the Computer Science post in Class 11-12?
No. The advertisement specifically says B.Ed is not compulsory for Computer Science candidates.
What is the last date for my certificates to be issued?
26 October 2026. Certificates issued after that date will not be accepted, even if the application deadline is extended.
Do reserved category candidates get relaxation in degree marks?
Yes. SC, ST, EBC, BC and persons with disability get a 5 percent relaxation in the minimum prescribed marks of the educational and training qualification.

Pull out your mark sheets and check three things against the level you plan to pick: the exact percentage on your graduation or post-graduation, whether your two subjects sit inside the prescribed subject group, and whether your TET paper matches the level.
